Caricature Carving

Van Kelly will be teaching a caricature carving class for all levels of carvers. This is a very fun class and can fill up quickly. Van’s next class dates for 2025 are September 19-20 & December 5-6. Van Kelly started carving when he was 16 years old in his High School shop class. Van asked his shop teacher if he could carve instead of making the projects assigned. Thankfully, Van’s teacher agreed and that is how he got started carving. Over the years he has taken different types of carving classes. Van Kelly bought his first set of tools at Silver Dollar City in 1980 and has never lost the love to carve. Van had a lot of good helpers over the years and continued to to take classes, as Van always says, “You’re never too old to keep learning”. Some of Van’s instructors have been Mike Shipley, Harold Enlow, John Engler, and Steve Brown and they have all become good friends over the years.
